Travel Advisory: New Traffic Pattern Coming Friday Night, August 28 to I-295 North Near Exit 1A in Warwick

RHODE ISLAND, August 27 - Starting Friday night, August 28 at 9 p.m., the Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) is scheduled to shift all travel lanes to the right on I-295 North on the bridge where it passes over the Pawtuxet River, just after Exit 1A (Route 113 West) in Warwick.

Once in place, this new traffic pattern will allow crews to focus on superstructure rehabilitation on the left side of the bridge. All nearby on and off-ramps and lanes of travel will remain open.

This work is part of a multi-bridge project that is addressing six bridges along this section of I-295 in Warwick. RIDOT also will demolish and replace two bridges carrying I-295 over Bald Hill Road (Route 2) and two bridges over West Natick Road using accelerated bridge construction methods. These replacements will take place in spring and summer 2027.

All these bridges were built in the late 1960s. They carry 48,000 vehicles per day. The entire $76.6 million project will be done in summer 2028.

All construction projects are subject to changes in schedule and scope depending on needs, circumstances, findings, and weather.
